FIREPLACE OPERATION:

Pull the damper control rod (above door) all the way forward. This opens the damper.

Pull both knobs lower down on either side of the door to open the air control.

You are now ready to start a small fire with dry kindling.

Place dry kindling in a small pile between 2 full logs and ignite. Close the door to within 1” of its fully closed position. The kindling should be burning briskly in a few minutes.

Now fully close the door and wait several minutes and the kindling and logs will be well ignited. Open the doors and place several logs directly on the fire and close the doors.

There is a fan control knob by the bottom right hand side of the fireplace, turn this to activate the fan and push more heat out from the fireplace.

Once the fire is going well you can close the bottom 2 air control rods by pushing them in. This will slow the rate of burn.

When your fire has burned out close the damper by pushing the upper rod all the way in.

DISPOSAL OF ASHES

Once your fire and coals are out please place ashes in the ash bucket using the tools provided next to the fireplace. NEVER PLACE HOT/RED COALS IN THE ASH BUCKET.

Please do not use artificial logs or anything other than hardwood firewood (such as maple or ash, not pine, cedar or wood scrapes). Do not use lighter fluid to start the fire. Do not overload the fireplace. Assure that you do not operate the woodstove with the door open. Do not cut down trees on the property for firewood or collect deadwood from outside. Do not cut or split wood on the fireplace hearth (it will break) or anywhere inside the cottage. Firewood is just outside the front door of the cottage.
